Wari 2012 | Street Portraits
‘Wari’ is the term used to refer the holy pilgrimage in Maharashtra and the word is synonymous with the Pandharpur Yatra to the famous Lord Vitthal Temple. It is one of the most important pilgrimages of the 1000 year old Varkari Tradition. People who follow this tradition are called ‘Warkaris’. Wari is a ritual which revives their fervour of devotion towards God Vithoba by carrying ‘palkhi’s or ‘carriages’ of Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram to Pandharpur.
